Studio W.I.P.

What is Studio WIP?

Studio W.I.P. is the only Spray Paint n' Sip located in Chicago. During my 2022 spring semester I worked for them as a designer, researcher, and operator of their second location in Evanston.

Logo Variations

Our clientele changes with the season (ex: more couples focused in February, more child focused in the summer etc.) so we like to keep our branding fresh throughout the year. It's the most evident in our logos across social media which have become so popular that we've begun making merchandise.

500 and Counting Stencils

As you would probably guess, much of my time working at a spray paint n' sip was spent designing, uploading, and cutting stencils. Designing stencils cause you to think differently as a designer as all of the black space will be removed and your white space must be strongly connected otherwise it will be torn off and required to be remade. Many of the designs had to be scalable so small details simply weren't feasible for such small products that would later lose those details anyway as they were painted over again and again. My hands are still cramping after using that circut cutter.

Branding

Much of my work there was in branding. Both creating and maintaining a consistent brand image across platforms. I created branding packets, signage, even project proposals and submissions. While I can't show you everything I worked on below are some mockups I made during my time there.  "The Graff" was an event space under the Studio WIP umbrella but with a separate brand identity.

Merchandise

We also sold merchandise in addition to our classes. We were fortunate to have many talented artists working for us. I turned their art into graphics for various pieces of merchandise. We would also do seasonal drops of merchandise where I would take my holiday variant of the logo and apply it to shirts, sweaters, and such.
